Valentine's Style / Frolic Vintage

Valentine's Day is a day we all want that romantic look. Many girls are planning to go out and buy a new dress or outfit for a special night out. This week I visited Frolic Vintage in downtown Springfield, to style some Valentine's Day numbers.

Frolic has such a great variety of pieces, you could create something subtle & sweet, or sexy & daring. For me, I like to wear something I feel comfortable in, but still pretty! I love flowing pieces  & florals.

Here are some looks I went for & then some other items I loved that aren't necessarily my style!

Ladies, don't forget about Frolic Vintage (online or in store) when gearing up to create you look for love this season.

Winter Wears / Barista Style

On days like today, Mother Nature is trying to fool us into thinking it's late fall… when in reality it could just be Winter blooming into early Spring, or it might be Missouri's weather giving us a break from it's frigid temperatures (or teasing us, rather). In winter I like to revert to a simpler color palate. Moseying around in variations of the same outfit all season. This is my typical work-style. I work a part-time job as a barista at a Local coffee roaster & tasting room.

I absolutely love my camel coat and black booties.

There is rarely a day when I leave my house with out my Daniel Wellington watch strung tightly around my wrist.

Warmly,
Sarah Stracke

Thanks for the photos Sharon

Introducing Alexa Brooke Smothers

Friends, I am so excited to present to you the first collaboration and feature here on Floral Mountains. I want to introduce to you my dear and beautiful friend, Alexa Brooke Smothers of Horizon and Form. Alexa will be visiting my blog once every couple of months to show you how to highlight your natural aesthetic through the beauty industry.

I met Alexa via internet about a year ago. I was immediately drawn to her sense of creativity that she portrayed through her style and appearance. I then set up an appointment with her at the salon she worked at in Springfield for a small cut and conversation. To say the least, we hit it off. We chatted about blogging, style, personal creative goals, photography, and music. This lady was definitely my type. From there on out we kept in touch through social networking… I started blogging and not long after Alexa began her personal blog, Horizon and Form.

Thereafter, we decided to work together. I can’t wait for you all to discover her talents while revealing a little something about yourself along the way. I want you all to get to know Alexa, so here are a few Questions I thought would help us identify and relate with her.

Q : What are your favorite things to do in your free time?
A: For as long as I can remember it has been filled with lipstick and hairspray. Among the cosmetology side of life, I love capturing the world around me behind a camera; sometimes I like to be in front of it. I love creating things that make the every day prettier, whether it’s planting a cactus to put on a shelf, or putting an outfit or shoot together.
When I'm not creating, you can find me with an xbox controller in my hand and snuggled by my husband to be, or out nurturing my shopping addiction with thrifting.

Q: Explain what you do professionally.
A: I've been a professional cosmetologist since the beginning of 2012 and an aspiring photographer for years before.  Loving everything about the industry, it’s hard to pick just one outlet. I tend to lean toward makeup artistry, however, I would love to eventually be able to have a business, where hair makeup and photography are a one stop shop.

Q: How long have you been practicing hair and makeup?
A: Practicing hair and makeup was never foreign to me. Home-schooled until high school and having an aunt and grandmother with a salon, I basically grew up in it, which definitely spawned and inspired my love for all things fashion. Even as a slight tom boy, growing up in the middle of nowhere, I would braid my hair to go climb a tree, because that was the "look" for tree climbing. Yeah, I did that.
I got my first camera as a gift at the age of 14, and shortly after that I began doing my friends hair and makeup for prom, senior pictures or we would create a shoot just for fun. Because of my love for it, the career kind of found me.

Q: What makes you passionate about hair and makeup?
A: I am so passionate about what I do because I love the look on someone’s face, when you can tell you have brightened their day. In a world that pushes products upon products and edited beyond belief photos on our society, I love being able to show someone that they are beautiful with what they were given.

Q: How would you describe your personal style?
A: I would describe my style as eclectic minimalist. I love unique pieces, but don't like to over do it. This is the same with my hair and make-up. A bold lip or an overly curly mop is right up my alley, but its all about balance.
My comfort outfit is a high waist pant with a crop top and bold shoe, or a funky dress and hat and always, always a cat eye.

Q: Tell us about your career currently and your dreams for the future.
A: Currently, I am trying to find a salon job as I just moved to Nashville a few weeks ago! I plan on being behind the chair, along with freelance makeup and photography until I eventually can do it all self-employed.

Readers, look forward to hearing more from Miss Alexa. In the mean time, visit her blog, Horizon and Form to be inspired.

Wintry Mix | Christmas Wishes

Wintry Mix

Lately I have been ewwing and aweing over these things.

I can't get enough of Hack With Design's limited editions, they have me all googly eyed.

I would love to get cozy under one of Rebekka Seale's hats. I can't get over her gorgeous hand made yarn.

I've been long in need of a full body underwear suit for Christmas morning and when I found this on American Apparel's website, I got all frazzled to say the least.

I can't stop dreaming of the lovely numbers I could create with Ace & Jig's pieces.

Happy Shopping this season!

Adoring Autumn + Apple Cider Oatmeal Recipe

Hat/ Target, Sweater/Target, Shirt/Poler Stuff, Jeans/Levis, Socks/Target, Shoes/Target

Autumn has had me completely swept off of my feet this past month. This years' leaves have been the most vibrant I can remember. We were fortunate to get a lot of rain recently in Missouri and that must have been what contributed to the intensity and variation of the colors that painted the trees and streets. I found my self taking videos of walking down the streets on Halloween; as I walked under the different trees, the groups of leaves that had fallen would alternate color schemes, each so vibrant and enthralling. I couldn't quit thinking about how beautiful it was... I couldn't help to be extremely thankful for the beauty the Lord has surrounded me with.
Halloween was enchanting this season. It was the first one where I actually ventured through the streets solely observing. I started at the beginning of  Pickwick street, which is a street in town that has a certain unavoidable charm to it.  I grabbed a cup of home made cider from the natural and locally grown foods store on the corner and began my walk to my friends' house at the end of the street. I loved watching the kids going door to door to collect their candy that would last them for the entire year. The costumes ranged vastly, from terrifying mummy's to adorable cupcakes, they scurried through the streets with an irreplaceable and unique excitement. I reminisced my past, and walked carrying a very nostalgic, but content emotion. I remember what it was like for me as a kid on Halloween, but I am now enjoying the feeling Halloween brings as an adult. Still fun and exciting, but different.
I hope you all had a lovely holiday, whether you were seeking thrill, trick-or-treating yourself, dressing your littles up, or enjoying being cooped up. Now we gear up for another, more significant holiday. I'm very happy to spend more time with my family this season and constantly remind myself that thankfulness isn't something that comes around once a year, but we set aside this day to enjoy our blessings in unity and love.

I made some delicious Apple Cider Oatmeal this morning, I hope that you will be able to set aside a quiet morning this week and enjoy being thankful with a bowl of warm and spicy oats in your hand and a cup of coffee in the other.

Bring 1 cup of cider and 1 cup of water to a boil.
Throw in 2 cups of rolled oats & cook for 5 minutes.
Stir in 1/4 cup of raisins and 1/2-1 cup of home made apple sauce.
Garnish with apple slices, cinnamon, and pecans.

Serves two.

Vegan, Dairy free, and delicious.

It was the First Day of Summer.

Dress// Love Birds Boutique | Hat// Forever 21

Yesterday was officially the first day of Summer and let me tell you it felt like it! I was more than happy to find some shade to snap these pictures in.
So let's talk about this dress! My friend Amanda Rose sent me this lovely little number from her new boutique! Isn't it perfect? It's my favorite balance of modern meets western. It's so perfect for summer and it's now probably the most comfortable dress I own.
Friends, you've got to check out her variety of dresses on their (newly launched -yay!- ) website.

I hope you enjoyed your first day of Summer! Let's plan a float trip!
